About Chaiti
Let me introduce you
I used to write a lot in my childhood back in India. I still remember the reaction of my father when I read through of my writing about life – “Life is a stage …”. He promptly asked, “Did you look at my ‘Shakespeare’ book ?”. I didn’t have any idea who he was talking about, I didn’t know who William Shakespeare was at that age. My favorite topic was “Life”; the versatility, beauty, complexity of life always awestruck me. Seating outside in our big-garden of our country-side home ( Kalyani, WB) and writing became my Sunday-noon rituals. But that didn’t continue steadfast. My life’s priority became all about academic, career and one day I left my house to study MS in USA. I still sometime miss those special hiding place in our garden where I used to write and my diary. Nothing much change in initial journey of my life in West, though I was enjoying a certain level of personal freedom. I became so observant of everything again as I was in my childhood – people, culture, environment, nature, food. Life was going on, not much differently than other immigrant; finished study, got job, got married with my college-friend Somak Bhattacharya, an Engineer and blessed with two kids - Shawhn and Rayan. Our two kids were born in New Jersey. Though by profession I can be defined as “conservative” but by passion I am “creative”. And creative people are bit rebel and unconventional. I learned and realized a lot about freedom in United Sates and that made be realized I am not completely free as an immigrant under certain visa. That was the point my journey became different than other immigrants who landed in USA with American-dream like me. I felt I am not free enough to enjoy the American dream. We moved to Canada for better immigration status and more freedom in life. I never denied the fact that America is a land of opportunity, neither my American dream faded away completely. My poetic, creative mind prioritized freedom. I came out of my cocoon in Canada, they welcomed us with warmth. I could tell and feel this land as my home after long time I left India. I was able to capitalize this freedom in many aspects in my/our life there. Me and my husband became Canadian Citizen. And most importantly I started writing.
My experience and journey in different countries (India, USA, Canada) provides bigger perspective of world-view, politics, philosophy, social-structure, culture and this is fueling me to write again. I am writing continuously since last four years. I moved back to USA in Aug-2021 with a job offer along with my family.
“Without knowing what I am and why I am here, life is impossible.” – Leo Tolstoy. My journey started to know about life, then I realized I first need to know myself and reason of my existence. That’s all I am doing through my writing and sometimes I strongly feel to share it with others. I have created a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk5AZa1LUq_HQCVvrgLJ1SA) with my son for same purpose. With this new initiative of mine I would like to connect and reach out to people and may be will able to create some positive impact by my experience, journey and creativity.
